Develop a short affirmation that you can use to focus on yourself. If you repeat this statement you can overcome your stress. Remind yourself of your qualifications or reassure yourself that you are calm. Use whatever words feel most encouraging to you.

There are those that look for relief from drugs and alcohol whenever they are feeling stressed. Essentially, this is how they work to provide relief for the issue. Unfortunately, however, it’s only temporary relief — if even that. However, chemical substances, which do encompass alcohol, are rarely effective in reducing stress. Illicit drugs create complications that will just magnify the problems you are already facing.

A great technique for reducing stress is daydreaming for short periods. See yourself in a tranquil place, and free your mind to wander on its own. It is a great technique for providing the brain with a relaxing alternative to whatever thoughts are causing stress.

To minimize the amount of stress you feel, think in advance about what could go wrong in any given situation. Just in case something does go wrong, you should have backup plans such as having another babysitter available, keeping a spare key hidden someplace safe or a quick meal you make at work. Knowing how to handle your problems ahead of time will make them much easier to deal with.

When you are rushing through your day, sometimes you may realize that you are moving too fast, or notice that your thoughts are racing. In these situations, it is vital that you slow down and start taking deep breaths so that you can gain a clear perspective. As you go through your day, don’t rush as much as usual. This keeps your anxiety levels down.

Breathing before you respond can help control a situation that is stressful. Take a moment by yourself to count out ten deep breaths before trying to tackle the issue at hand. This deep breathing technique can help you to center yourself and refocus your attention on the most logical course of action.

To reduce stress learn some deep breathing exercises. Sometimes, understanding how to breathe properly can make a significant difference in managing stress and calming someone down. This is a guaranteed way to relieve stress and should be a daily ritual for you.

One way to relieve stress after a grueling day is to do an act of kindness for another. Present your partner with a bouquet of flowers, or make a special treat for your child. This puts the focus on others and is a positive way to remove yourself from your own stressful situation. An added bonus is the recipient’s reaction to your gesture.

Put aside some time in your life to practice meditation techniques. This is a great way to relax both your body and mind. If you can make it a regular practice to meditate, the relaxation and clear mind that you develop will carry into other areas of your life. This also helps you fight stress in, especially difficult situations.

Work on your time management skills if you want to relieve yourself of major stress. The body is constantly stressed when there is a rush to complete things. This stress can be completely alleviated by the simple act of time management. With proper planning, maintaining a stricter schedule and utilizing your spare time more efficiently, you can accomplish much more and minimize the stress associated with constantly being pressed for time.

When you need to purchase lotion or shampoo, buy some that smell really good. If you like your scent during your day, you can feel a bit better about yourself and you can combat your stress better. To help build up your thought process buy some body sprays or lotions.

It is always a good idea to snack throughout the day. Serotonin, a brain chemical that lifts your moods, can be stimulated by foods that contain carbohydrates. Don’t go overboard on the carbohydrates, but try a nutritious whole wheat bagel or whole-grain cereal to help reduce stress.

Planning ahead is a good way to reduce stress. If you make plans to do something you can focus on this and not the stress you are feeling. Some great ideas include obtaining tickets to a concert or purchasing movie tickets in advance.

Looking at soothing images can help keep stress levels under control. Your brain starts to relax when it receives visual stimuli in the form of pleasant images. Some examples include images of serene landscapes such as mountains, or pleasant objects such as flowers. Meditation-style visualization can work just as well for you as a photograph. If you can imagine yourself in a peaceful setting, you will feel much less stress.

If you are feeling a lot of stress, one way to relieve some of it is to eat your favorite dessert. Only do this if your self-control is such that you will not overeat. Focusing on the flavors and savoring the treat is the important thing to remember here. Remain careful about overeating and eating only comfort food. Use this method once in a while to get rid of your stress right away.

All of these practices can help you effectively manage your stress. If you can successfully manage your everyday stress, you will feel healthier and add years to your life. Practice using the advice provided with these tips to have a more joyous, peaceful life.

Suicide and PTSD: Post-War Torture

War Torture – Three hundred miles off the Argentina coast in the South Atlantic lay the Falkland Islands, also known to the Argentines as Islas Malvinas. It consists of two main islands, East and West Falklands which lie 300 miles east of the Argentina coast. There are about 200 smaller islands that form a total land area of approximately 4,700 square miles. The only town and capital are Port Stanley.

The English navigator John Davis may have been the first person to sight the Falklands. However, the Argentine version states that “Spanish seamen” were the first without giving further details. Some also say that Ferdinand Magellan was the first to see the islands on his voyage around the world. Another claim is based on one of Magellan’s ships deserting the expedition and going back to Spain. While it is true that there was such a ship, there are no original documents to prove the actual sighting of the islands.

The government of the Falkland Islands administers the British dependent territories of South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, and the Shag and Clerke rocks, lying from 700 to 2,000 miles (1,100 to 3,200 km) to the east and southeast of the Falklands.

Argentina has claimed the islands since the early 19th century. Britain had occupied and administered the islands since 1833 and had consistently rejected Argentina’s claims. Just like any other conflicts in our world history, claiming and ruling a specific territory initiated war between the Argentines and the British forces. Ownership of the islands has always been a hotly contested issue between the two governments. On April 2nd of 1982, the war began, with thousands of Argentine troops landing on the Falklands.

The British captured about 10,000 Argentine prisoners, all of whom were afterward released. Argentina’s defeat severely discredited the military government and led to the restoration of civilian rule in that country in 1983.

After more than 20 years, a shocking revelation unfolds. Research claims that a high number of veterans have taken their own lives since the South Atlantic conflict ended, both from the Argentine and the British troops. The suicide figure was almost half of the number of soldiers who died during the battle.

There were also allegations that the people in command of the military forces of both countries tried to ignore the issue of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which leaves many sufferers emotionally scarred and unable to work. Some veterans have claimed that their condition was not diagnosed or treated while they were still serving. They added that they were never warned about the effects of their enlistment or discharge from the forces. They were also not given any presentations or debriefings to prepare them for possible outcomes.

PTSD is among only a few mental disorders that are triggered by a disturbing outside event, like war and war torture. The traumatic event causes a cascade of psychological and biological changes. Battles throughout the ages often triggered what some people called “shell shock,” in which returning soldiers were unable to adapt to life after the war. Although each successive war brings about renewed attention on this syndrome, it wasn’t until the Vietnam War that PTSD was first identified and given this name.

There seems to be a general pattern for war veterans suffering PTSD. They experience recurring nightmares and flashbacks followed by recourse to heavy drinking or drugs then crime. A lot of war veterans ended up in prison often for violence, and some of them killed themselves in their cells. While many veterans have been suffering from PTSD, others have only been unable to cope with the reality of life outside the forces. Many have become caught up in alcoholism, drug abuse, homelessness, depression, and relationship break-up. PTSD has indeed turned these war veterans towards the path of self-destruction.

Today, mental health providers such as psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals can attempt to understand people’s response to these traumatic events and help them recover from the impact of the trauma.

The Falklands Conflict was one of the few major naval campaigns to have occurred since the end of the Second World War. As such, the conflict illustrated the vulnerability of surface ships to anti-ship missiles and reaffirmed the effectiveness of aircraft in naval warfare. However, the Falklands War also showed the weakness of people, especially of the war veterans. Even if the war has ended, it has left an imprint that will forever be within their lives.

The Falklands war cost England 255 men, six ships, and more than 1.6 billion pounds. The fight lasted 74 days, with 649 Argentine soldiers, sailors, and airmen, and three civilian Falklanders killed. The Falklands campaign was considered a great victory for the United Kingdom. The British may have overpowered the Argentines, but both of them suffered the consequences of the atrocity of war and continuously agonizing from it.

Conclusion – PTSD and War Torture

PTSD has been detected since the 1800s, but nobody seemed to care because of the aggressive expansion of the west to the south, east and beyond. Not until recently, the veteran departments discovered that soldiers that served during the second world war, and the Vietnam war became more suicidal before the government decided to do something about it. If you, your loved ones, or someone that you know is suffering from PTSD or some past trauma, make it your duty to talk to them to see the doctor. You never know when you’ll prevent a suicide.

Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful weekend ahead.

Being positive will also make you more pleasant to be around, and there is a lesser chance you will be lonely.

If your mood is low, it is important to eat regular meals. You can often not be as hungry if you are feeling down, and you might feel more tired and less motivated. Your body can’t function properly if you don’t consume enough calories. Your body gets the energy it requires when you eat meals regularly.

Catch Up On Your Precious Sleep With These Insomnia Tips

June 9th, 2018

Insomnia Tips – Is sleep important to you? When insomnia is something you have, it can be hard for you to function properly. The experts have given some excellent tips below so that you can sleep well.

Shut down your computer and turn the TV off about an hour before going to bed. They can be stimulating to your brain. Turning them off lets your brain rest. Don’t use these devices late into the night.

Make sure you are sleeping for as long as you need to feel rested. Do not try to catch up on lost sleep by sleeping longer as it does not work this way. Sleep until you feel rested every night. Don’t decide to withdraw from the rest of the week or bank more hours.

Insomnia Tips

Restless leg syndrome could be causing your insomnia. This condition occurs whenever your legs are always uncomfortable at night. You may find that they hurt or twitch at night. As a result, you move them around the bed regularly which may be the root, or the cause of your insomnia.

Insomnia Tip 1 – Tryptophan

Many foods contain tryptophan, which induces sleep naturally. You are far more likely to get to sleep with speed and ease if your last foods before bedtime include foods featuring tryptophan. Turkey, eggs, cashews, heated milk and cottage cheese all contain tryptophan. Remember, though, that your milk must be heated if you want to achieve success. Cold milk doesn’t have the same effect.

Create a journal to decipher your sleeping problems. Record your favorite foods at bedtime and after exercise to see how your moods alter. Use this information to figure out how it contributes to how much sleep you get. You can make adjustments as necessary when you know what factors affect your restfulness.

Stick to a routine at bedtime because it will help you to create a reliable method of dealing with insomnia. The body needs a regular schedule to function at its best. If you go to bed at a particular time each evening, your body will begin to relax around that time every night.

Cognitive therapy may be worth a try if you’re finding it very difficult to overcome your insomnia. Through this form of therapy, disturbing thoughts and ideas are targeted, that may be causing you to lose sleep. Cognitive therapy also provides patients with information such as sleep changes and sleep norms that are age-related and can help set reasonable sleep goals.

Getting a massage before you go to bed can help you get rid of insomnia. Your muscles become relaxed, and this calms the body. Massage your spouse and help them sleep well too. Short foot massages can help you sleep better.

Put all your fears and stresses down on paper. Obsessive thinking about anything causes stress that interferes with sleep. Write down any problems you’re having and your plans for solving them. You’ll minimize your stress when you have a plan to cope with the causes of pressure, leading to better sleep at night.

Many people can’t fall asleep due to noise. Sometimes like lightest sounds such as the noise of a clock may cause a person to get a lack of sleep. Take things out of the bedroom known to cause noise. If you stay somewhere where there’s a lot of noise outside, try to get a machine that makes white noise to cover normal noises.

A tryptophan deficiency can keep you awake. Eat cottage cheese before you go to bed to get your levels back up. If this does not work, purchase a 5-HTP supplement. You will find relief this way.

Learn how you can manage your day to day stress better. When you fail to deal with your accumulated daily stress, it will prohibit your ability to sleep come bedtime. Learn helpful breathing exercises, meditation or other coping strategies.

Make your bedroom a haven that helps you fall asleep. Be sure you don’t have lights coming through the windows. Blinds are not always the best way to block out the light. Buy darker curtains to block that light. Tin foil works cheaply, too.

Insomnia Tip 2 – Deep Breathing

Deep breathing can help you fall asleep. Lie on your back while doing everything you can to relax your body. Take a deep breath, hold for a few seconds, and exhale slowly. If you repeat this for around 5 minutes, you will feel increased relaxation and are more likely to fall asleep.

If you are one of those people that get very aroused and alert directly after having sex, it is a good idea to do it several hours before it is time to go to bed. If having sex makes you tired, do it before bed.

If you are having a lot of trouble going to sleep, you should try having a high carb snack before you hit the bed as this will cause a change in your blood sugar and make you feel sleepy.

Steer clear of beverages in large quantities before sleep. Fluids will make you wake up to go to the bathroom.

Consuming alcoholic beverages can exacerbate your problems with insomnia. While the sedative effects of alcohol might initially cause drowsiness, the effect is reversed within a few hours. At that point, you will begin to feel more awake which will result in you being awakened several hours after you have gone to bed, feeling horrible and unable to fall back asleep again.

Now that you’re aware that sleep is critical, you have to make sure you get the sleep you need. Follow the information listed above to help you overcome your insomnia. No one needs to live life without the proper rest.

Stress can invoke PTSD, and you may be able to stop the effects of PTSD with a therapy called EMDR. Speak to your therapist about EMDR for Anxiety today. EMDR therapy might be able to help alleviate your post-traumatic stress syndrome. is on social media
